The Season 1 and Season 2 “99.9% Criminal lawyer” is a popular drama series about a real fact known about justice in Japan. Japan has one of the most extreme high conviction rates.

In this Jdrama, the rich kid from the “Boys over Flowers” drama is back. Jun Matsumoto is back with another remarkable performance, as the smart and unique criminal lawyer that looks for the 0.1% to save someone innocent from being locked up for a crime they didn’t do.
Of course, as previously mentioned, this is a representation of the Japanese criminal system that only in the last years has been updating some old fashion concepts. There are still memories of this justice system in Japanese society. This criminal system is known as “hostage justice” by critics and human rights organizations.
I remember seeing news and documentaries a long time ago, giving the example of one mother accused of murdering her daughter. The crime scene remaking, or in other words, simulation of what happened that night, proved that it would be impossible for the mother to kill her daughter. However, at the time, the results of those simulations were not valid to present in court, so, as they show in this drama, they presented facts that lead them to small things that could be proven.
Although it’s considered a safe country, Japan’s Laws are still being restructured, after the newest generations demanding change and more rights. Such as the petition to raise the age of consent to 16. Remember, after the second world war, a few Japanese teenagers had to auction their virginity as a way to have money for food, in the famine period. The Japanese community is slowly waking up to the changes that need to occur to make Japan better for the nationals.
I know it seems like a serious topic! But this Japanese drama is funny while fighting against the odds and the anti-corruption. Also, teaching older how important it is to fight for the truth and justice, instead of just following the crowd and what corrupted officials say.
Even, a son of a convicted criminal enters the journey for the truth and justice that was denied to his father.
