Tomohisa Yamashita is back as the lead actor in the amazing Drama “ Blue Moment”. The Drama is based on a manga by Kana Ozawa and was directed by Ryo Tanaka and Tomonobu Moriwaki. Yamashita has proven that his skills as an actor have improved since he did a similar concept but medical topic with “Code Blue” aired from 2008 until 2017.
On the Drama ” Blue Moment” was released in April 2024 by the network Fuji TV. The Special Disaster Management team, led by the blunt Kankuro Haruhara (Tomohisa Yamashita), is dedicated to saving lives during meteorological emergencies. Among the new recruits is determined rookie Aya Kumota (Natsuki Deguchi), whose tenacity Kankuro initially doubts. As a dangerous storm approaches Tokyo, the team faces its greatest challenge yet.
Haruhara, a brilliant and talented expert in meteorology, simulations and patterns faces an altering moment in his life, after the death of his fiance. Although, he cares about people in his life and tries to protect them, since the event he shutdown and can not love anyone like before.
His fiancé, Sonobe, also an expert in meteorology, died in a mysterious way . She left a safe shelter in the middle of a storm for unknown reasons. But she left behind a life project where her dream was to reach people in time to be rescued, in many environmental hazards that take lives every time.
The Special Disaster Management team project is set in place in her memory with the combined help of Haruhara and her fiance’s father. The project starts to take shape and rescue people from dangerous situations.
How did the fiancé die?
The fiance , Sonobe, was caught during a flood. Floods sometimes can be unpredictable in the urban context due to the waterways covered by “progress”. These are now called hidden rivers. Some cities have been reorganising their Urban areas to make these hidden rivers visible to the eye, installing more effective surveillance in case of floods.
This is no different in Tokyo. Every year the conglomerate of cities that make Tokyo big suffer massive floods that put lives at risk. As prevention the Japanese government has been developing underground structures to redirect the water to prevent higher damage and danger to their citizens.
The emotions in the drama are more surrounding the dangers people face everyday and the political scandals that may appear in newspapers without much knowledge of the full story.
The political campaigns and rivalries on news can take a toll in actions , development and research programmes designed to save lives. The news that Sonobe has ran from the safe shelter where she said was safe zone to other people,it was the scandal. Sonobe’s father was the current mayor and he was a huge part in setting up his daughter project, as her last wish. But the political rival wanted to take over and downgrade the mayor influence to gain the elections.
The truth was there was an unknown factor that only a few people knew. A kindergarten teacher and a co-worker knew the truth. The kindergarten teacher had still 2 kids in her care after parents failed to collect them during evacuation orders. Sonobe appears and assists with one of the kids that was her godson, son of the co-worker. She died while saving the kid from the flood.
