Japan’s Music Trends on TikTok and X in the last 30 days

Japanese fandom culture has never been static. From the idol boom of the 1980s, to the drama-driven fandoms of the 1990s, and later the SNS explosion of the 2010s, fans in Japan have continuously reshaped how popularity is created and sustained.
What has changed in the 2020s is speed. X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok now act as real-time cultural accelerators, where a single scene, line, or melody can redefine what is considered a “fan favorite” within hours.

This month’s Fan Favorites reflect that shift: less about long-term dominance, more about emotional resonance, clip-ability, and repeat sharing.

🎵 Fan-Favorite Sounds Dominating TikTok & X Japan

Number_i – “3XL”

Currently one of the most reused sounds in short-form video edits. Fans gravitate toward its confident tone, using it for idol fancams, transformation edits, and commentary clips. Its popularity is driven less by choreography and more by attitude — a Gen-Z hallmark.

HANA – “Cold Night”

A slower, emotionally grounded track gaining traction through mood-based storytelling videos. Commonly paired with late-night city visuals, drama reflections, and introspective captions.

King Gnu – “AIZO”

Frequently used in high-impact edits, particularly those tied to anime and dramatic visuals. Its layered sound makes it ideal for emotional build-ups, which explains its strong reuse rate.

M!LK – 好きすぎて滅!

A fan-driven favorite rather than an algorithmic one. Its playful tone performs well in reaction videos, comedy edits, and lighthearted fandom content.

YOASOBI – “Idol”

While no longer new, it remains a legacy viral sound. Fans continue to repurpose it, proving that emotional attachment can outlast trend cycles.
